Palo Alto Creamery Fountain & Grill

We had eaten a few times at the Downtown Palo Alto location (the first one they had) but today was the first time we ate at the one on the Stanford Shopping Center: had the best capuccino I can recall, a great Breakfast Quesadilla and the rest of the folks in our party had only great thing to say about their food and their shake. The gorgeous day helped and the service was impeccable.

Westfield San Francisco Shopping Centre Food…

Category: Food Stands
Neighborhood: Union Square

5 star rating

Yesterday, for the first time, we visited the food court (or Emporium, as they call it rightfully so) @ the Westfield Centre by Market St. We were SO impressed: we expected the traditional franchises yet found none of them (fortunately). There were so many great options to eat that it made it really hard to choose, but we settled on Buckhorn a great place to eat Trip-Tip (Punta Trasera, para los venezolanos) at a "reasonable" price. We got a plate with the meat, veggies and a glass of wine for a little over $13.

We will be coming back: to Buckhorn and the Emporium, in future visits to the city.

Bia's

Neighborhood: Haight-Ashbury

We were walking past Bia's and my wife (who had eaten there before and not been impressed with the service) wanted to show me the back patio: she thought it was beautiful.

We approached the guy standing behind the bar and asked him whether it would be OK for us to check out the back patio. He looked at us and the fact that we were with our 4-year old son and said: "Perhaps it's not a good idea. There's customers back there" with the most condescending attitude and treating us as the biggest jerk because we had a child with us.

We will never eat at this place. I am not surprised we got this comment from one of the servers: service seems to be the worst thing at this place.

Mediterranean Wraps

Categories: Middle Eastern, Greek and Mediterranean

3 star rating

The attention at this tiny (almost easy to miss) spot in California Ave is hard to parallel: it's the kind that you have a hard time finding any more. The food is good, but the service makes the experience at Mediterranean Wraps one you want to repeat soon. The main issue: the size of the servings is very large and, depending on the plate, it can be high in fats too.

Caffe del Doge

Categories: Coffee & Tea, Italian

4 star rating

Coffee @ Del Doge can be pricey, but they brew some of the best cappuccinos you can get in downtown Palo Alto. Like most places in the area, space is at a prime, but you can still sit down and have a good one-on-one talk w/o much problem. Sitting for extended periods (specially upstairs) can be quite challenging and certainly not recommendable if you are coming with your 4-year old. :)

We just picked up our car from Mathews-Carlsen and found every comment posted here to be true: quality workmanship, great service and no surprises. I would recommend them to anyone in the south of the Bay area.

Indochine

Category: Thai

5 star rating

My wife has become the biggest fan of Thai food, so on the way back home today we decided to give Indochine a try and we were not disappointed. The attention was great. The food was very good too. The portions were very generous, so much so that we have enough left for tomorrow's dinner. Highly recommendable easy-to-miss spot in Middlefield, Palo Alto.

Red Mango

Great yogurt (just as good as Fraiche's). They have more seating room (it also feels roomier all in all) than Fraiche. However, they loose a star because they don't offer coffee. That is a big no-no!

The Counter

Category: Burgers

4 star rating

Today marks the second time I eat @ The Counter. The first time was a bit rushed. Today I was able to assemble my own burger. I loved that I could do it without the bun, on a bed of lettuce. The meat was GREAT! The only complaint would be that the onion strings (not rings, but a thinner version of these) were rather greasy: otherwise, the place is highly recommendable!

Emporio Rulli Gran Caffe

Category: Italian
Neighborhood: Marina/Cow Hollow

5 star rating
 05/11/2008
We arrived at the Emporio Rulli by pure coincidence, while looking for a place to have a nice pre-Mother's Day meal. The egg plates we ordered were good, though not out of this world: they mainly lacked a bit of salt. However, the panini my son had was great, the wine I sipped (a Barbera) was excellent and, above all, the coffee (I had a cappuccino) was the best one I have had in a very long time. My wife also deeply enjoyed the pastries.
